So too did Egypt have much trade with them for they were the purveyors of Myrrh and Frankincense, for use in the rituals of mummification.

    Our first literary introductions to it is in the story of Joseph and his many colored coat, where the Bible tells of how his jealous brothers in anger, "Sold him to passing Midianites". When we next see him in Egypt 10 years later, Joseph is a master in the art of Dream Divination, who even as a servant in the palace, can reach the ear of the Pharaoh. A far cry from the frightened young boy cast out by his heartless elder brothers.

    Another Biblical notable spent decades in this hidden kingdom. Moses, after fleeing his crime of killing the overseer in Egypt, returns. Now married to the daughter of Jethro, High Priest of  Midian, he is a formidable master of magics, leading the tribes of Israel from slavery under the pharaoh Rameses, bringing them the commandments that are followed to this day.

    Soloman was enamored of the lovely Queen Sheba, Queen of Midian, Sireing a son to her and passing to him the Fabled Ark of the Covenant for safekeeping.

    Scythians once raided there for wealth and glory. It's major exports being the frankincense, myrrh and other temple goods.

     What was once this mythical land is now the country of Yemen on the Arabic peninsula, a strange land off the beaten path. Still a magical and secluded land of ancient ways.
